I didn’t think I’d ever say yes but here I am saying YES! I am teaching an online canning class. And it’s launching this Friday, November 9th! Registration is open now.
Here’s some more info on why I created the course and what people have been asking most about it:
Does the class begin on November 9 or can I do it whenever I want? You will have access to everything on November 9 and can learn at your own pace on your own time. If you’re taking the live course, the private Facebook group office hours are only available November 9-19.
What do I need to buy and how much will that cost? I send participants a detailed tool list with links to purchase. In a nutshell: you will need jars ($10), a wide mouth funnel ($4), jar lifter ($5), lid lifter ($4), canning rack ($8) and a few pots (one for cooking, one for processing).
What kind of apples do I get? How many? You will need about 3 pounds per quart and can use whatever apples you love. With the course, I give detailed suggestions on variety and where/how to buy.
How much time do I need to set aside for the course? I’d allow yourself 2-3 hours for your first time. Once you get the hang of the process it’ll be much faster!
Do I need to be worried about food safety? No! Well, not more than you worry about it now. ???? I will address your concerns about canning and food safety. We are canning a high acid food so botulism cannot exist in our jars. And I am here to help you along and answer your questions!
I love to preserve food because it’s packed with nutrition, is super satisfying, saves a lot of money and saves even more waste. And I love sharing canning with people because it truly is much easier than most imagine and I believe working with our hands and putting up jars of wholesome food that we share with neighbors can save the world.
Together we will demystify canning, learn all the ins and outs of selecting fruit (nope: don’t need access to freshly picked apples), acquiring tools, making sauce and putting it up for our kin!
Preserving Harvest: Applesauce / An Online Course for Beginners
No experience necessary. Participants will learn how to can applesauce, starting from the very first steps of acquiring tools and selecting apples and walking all the way through to a pantry shelf lined with delicious applesauce. Your newly acquired knowledge will allow you to safely and confidently can salsas, sauces, jams and more.
Why apples? Good apples can be found year round. You needn’t have access to an apple tree to have great apples to make applesauce. But maybe you see all those apples dripping from your neighbor’s tree and want to fill laundry baskets? Oh yeah.
We will help you select from what you’ve got whether it’s an orchard or Costco. Also: learn to can apples and you can any jam, sauce, spread, butter or salsa. Yes!
I’ve made this affordable in hopes you’ll just say yes! ♥ I promise you’ll get so much out of this experience and, as nervous as I am to put this out there, I am way more thrilled to share space with you.
